Friday Lunch

Friday, June 19 we will be having a pizza lunch.  Thank you to Bree Machado's family for providing the pizza!  Your child can bring a morning snack and drink to have with lunch.

Math News

This Friday, April 10th will be a math test on Motion Geometry, study notes went home last Thursday. Last week's Geometry test is coming home today for you to have a look at and sign.  Please return it some time this week.  Thank you!

This week we begin a new math unit on linear measurement.  In this unit, your child will:
     - Estimate and measure in centimetres, metres, and kilometres.
     - Estimate and measure perimeter in centimetres and metres.
     - Estimate and measure area using non-standard units.
     - Recognize that different figures may have the same area.
     - Recognize that different figures may have the same perimeter.

Geometry Test

A package of review sheets were sent home before March Break.  We completed these sheets in class together.  Students can do very well on the test if they know the content in these sheets.

Math Update

Several students will be bringing home math homework today.  They need to complete #1, 2 and 3 on page 111/112.  We worked on this in class but some are still not finished.  This homework requires them to make trapezoids, rhombuses, parallelograms and pentagons.  These figures are described on page 111 for easy reference.  Thank you for helping and checking their work over.

We have just begun a unit on geometry.  Through daily activities, we will explore figures and solids and the relationships among them.  In this unit, your child will:
  -  Describe angles.
  -  Name describe, and sort figures and solids.
  -  Identify congruent figures and solids.
Geometry is an important part of a student's mathematical experience.  People with a deep understanding of geometry and good special sense will be able to describe the world around them and appreciate the geometry found in art, nature, and architecture.

Our class is starting a mathematics unit on time.  Children will explore time to the nearest 5 minutes on an analog clock, and to the nearest minute on a digital clock.

Paper Bag Book Reports Begin!

Paper Bag Book Reports

All students have chosen their books for their book report. The next step is to find a paper bag.  If you ask at Zehrs, they are usually able to help you out or they can be purchased from Dollarama (in the craft aisle).  Even a recycled gift bag would do because the sides can be covered with the pictures, summary etc.  The success criteria was on the page that came home explaining the report.  If you need another copy of this page, please let me know.  The last date to complete the report is Friday, January 23rd, but students can present their report any time before that date if they are ready.
