Our new math unit is Patterning and Place Value. Please scroll down to see the parent note that explains the content of the unit along with a fun game that you can play with your child. I found a great ipad app called "The Great 100's Chart Bearventure!"($ .99) that supports this unit.
Today's homework: page 7/8 #1-5 (we already did #1 and 2 together). Due tomorrow.

Math Test - Wednesday, October 15
In your child's agenda you will see that we wrote that the math test would be on Tuesday, the 14th. Please be advised that there has been a change. Due to the holiday weekend, the test has been rescheduled for Wednesday the 15th. The test is on Data Management and Graphing. In class we have been learning about tally charts, pictographs, bar graphs and circle graphs. Students should know the differences between each kind of graph. They also need to know how to draw a pictograph and an accurate bar graph.
A pictograph needs: 1. A title
2. Pictures
3. A key to tell how many items each picture represents.
4. Pictures should all be the same and should be neat.
A bar graph needs: 1. A horizontal and vertical axis.
2. A title.
3. Numbers with an appropriate scale.
4. Numbers go on or beside the lines.
5. Labels.
6. Bars coloured carefully.
If your child wants extra practice, there are a number of math games on the internet. You can do a basic search for grade 3 graphing and data management skills or you can go to one of the math links that are displayed on our blog (scroll down on the right hand side).
Have a great Thanksgiving weekend!!

October 7th
For the field trip on Tuesday, October 7th to Heritage Village, we are suggesting that students dress up as early settlers. This does not mean that you need to go out and buy a special costume. Girls would wear a long skirt or dress, this could be an old adult skirt tied with a belt or ribbon. A boy costume may be blue jeans and a plaid shirt with suspenders. Value Village is a great resource if you are really stuck and have the time to check it out.
Thank you to our parent volunteers, there are several of you! Unfortunately, our bus is not big enough to accommodate you all. We are asking that you car pool and follow the bus. We will be leaving the school at approximately 9:00.
