We need binders!
We are working hard on our Literacy Centres but we need a place to compile our pages. Most students have brought in a 1"binder but we are waiting on the rest. Thanks to those who have already sent them in!
Also, we are in need of more Kleenex tissues already! We are just beginning the cold and flu season and we are already out of Kleenex. If you have an extra box or two at home, we would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks!

Math Homework
Thank you for helping your child with this weeks' Problem of the Week. All of the problems were complete and showed their thinking. If your child has not yet returned the problem, please have them bring it tomorrow.
Tonight's Math homework is on page 16 #1-5. We worked on this for 20 minutes in class so the remainder can be done at home. This is due on Monday.

Update
Thank you for sending in money for Raz Kids. This is such a worthwhile program that would benefit all of the students in our class. I am going to sign our class up next week, so please let me know if you intend to have your child participate. Once we are registered, I will send home your child's personal log in information.
I am requesting that your child bring in a 1" binder. We will be needing it for our Literacy Centres.

Our new math unit is Patterning and Place Value. Please scroll down to see the parent note that explains the content of the unit along with a fun game that you can play with your child. I found a great ipad app called "The Great 100's Chart Bearventure!"($ .99) that supports this unit.

Math Test - Wednesday, October 15
In your child's agenda you will see that we wrote that the math test would be on Tuesday, the 14th. Please be advised that there has been a change. Due to the holiday weekend, the test has been rescheduled for Wednesday the 15th. The test is on Data Management and Graphing. In class we have been learning about tally charts, pictographs, bar graphs and circle graphs. Students should know the differences between each kind of graph. They also need to know how to draw a pictograph and an accurate bar graph.
A pictograph needs: 1. A title
2. Pictures
3. A key to tell how many items each picture represents.
4. Pictures should all be the same and should be neat.
A bar graph needs: 1. A horizontal and vertical axis.
2. A title.
3. Numbers with an appropriate scale.
4. Numbers go on or beside the lines.
5. Labels.
6. Bars coloured carefully.
If your child wants extra practice, there are a number of math games on the internet. You can do a basic search for grade 3 graphing and data management skills or you can go to one of the math links that are displayed on our blog (scroll down on the right hand side).
Have a great Thanksgiving weekend!!
